This Privacy Policy describes how the Word Chain mobile application (“the App”) handles data. Word Chain is a word puzzle game that operates entirely on your device. We are committed to protecting your privacy and collecting minimal data.
2. Data We Do Not Collect
Word Chain does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The App does not require account creation, login, or any personally identifiable information (PII) to function.
Specifically, the App:
- Does not request or use any device permissions (no camera, microphone, contacts, location, or storage permissions)
- Does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal details
- Does not use or collect your precise or approximate location
- Does not track your physical activity or health data
- Does not access your files, photos, media, or contacts
- Does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies
- Does not maintain any user accounts or profiles
3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
All game progress data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to our servers (we do not operate any servers). This local data includes:
- Game progress: completed levels, star ratings, current level unlocked in each difficulty category
- Daily challenge status: whether today’s challenge has been completed
- Streak data: current daily streak count and longest streak achieved
- Coin balance: number of hint coins earned or purchased
- App preferences: sound on/off, haptic feedback on/off, theme selection (light/dark/system)
- Purchase status: whether the “Remove Ads” upgrade has been purchased
This data is stored using Android SharedPreferences, a standard on-device storage mechanism. You can delete all of this data at any time by using the “Reset all progress” option within the App’s Settings, or through your device’s system settings (Apps > Word Chain > Clear Data).
4. Third-Party Services
Word Chain integrates the following third-party services, each operated by Google:
4.1 Google AdMob (Advertising)
The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob may collect and process certain data for ad serving and analytics purposes, including:
- Advertising ID — a resettable identifier used for ad personalization
- Device information — device model, operating system version, screen size, and network type
- App usage data — ad impressions, ad clicks, and ad interaction events
This data is collected and processed entirely by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy. Word Chain does not access, store, or have visibility into this data.
The App displays two types of ads:
- Banner ads — shown at the bottom of select screens. These are automatically removed when the user purchases the “Remove Ads” upgrade.
- Rewarded video ads — shown only when the user explicitly chooses to watch one in the Coin Shop to earn bonus coins. These are always optional and never shown automatically.
4.2 Google Play Billing (In-App Purchases)
The App offers in-app purchases through Google Play Billing, which is handled entirely by Google. Google processes payment information and purchase verification. Word Chain does not receive, access, or store any payment card details, billing addresses, or financial information.
The available purchases are:
- Coin packs (consumable) — in-game currency for purchasing hints
- Remove Ads (non-consumable) — a one-time purchase to remove banner advertisements
Google’s handling of payment data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Play’s Developer Policy.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any third parties beyond the Google services described above (AdMob and Play Billing). We do not work with data brokers or analytics companies.
6. Children’s Privacy
Word Chain is not specifically directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided personal information, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.
The App does not contain content that would be inappropriate for general audiences and does not require any personal data to function.
7. Data Retention
All game data is stored locally on your device and remains there until you choose to delete it (via the in-app reset or your device settings). We retain no data on external servers, as we do not operate any.
Ad-related data collected by Google AdMob is managed under Google’s standard data retention policies.
8. Data Security
Since all game data is stored locally on your device using standard Android system storage (SharedPreferences), it is protected by your device’s built-in security mechanisms (screen lock, encryption on supported devices). No data is transmitted over the internet by the App itself (ad and payment data is handled by Google SDKs using encrypted connections).
9. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:
- Right to delete: You can delete all locally stored game data at any time using the in-app “Reset all progress” option or your device settings.
- Right to opt out of ad personalization: You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads through your device settings (Settings > Google > Ads).
- Right to information: You can review this Privacy Policy at any time within the App or at the hosted URL.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
